In the UK, the eye test results of all Glens tested since July 2006 are published by the Kennel Club and individual Glens' results can be checked via the KC website:

http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk -- "Health Tests" ...

... if I type in the KC registered name of one of my Glens, it lists her health test results under Schedule 'A' of the KC Eye Scheme, and the KC DNA Testing Scheme for GPRA-crd3:

http://services.thekennelclub.org.uk/62bcb3f7625c40da94f7fe54d0374d46.healthtest

There are also pages on the KC website that list the results of all (UK) Glens that have been DNA tested for GPRA-crd3 since the launch of our official DNA Testing Scheme in October 2010:

http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/3384

Now that we have a DNA test for the Glen variant (crd3 - cone rod dystrophy 3) of the blinding disorder GPRA (generalised progressive retinal atrophy), responsible breeders will ensure that they only do "safe" matings, so that none of their puppies are at risk of developing GPRA-crd3. At least one parent MUST be DNA tested "Clear" or known to be "Hereditary Clear" for a "safe" mating.

At Crufts I spent some time ringside talking to the Neapolitan Mastiff exhibitors learning about their strategies for making progress on health. It was fascinating and heartening. I look forward to keeping up with their progress. Well done to those that are fighting the battle for improved health at the coal face. I appreciate it is not easy - in fact let's face it - it is the hardest of challenges. But they are trying.

The French Bulldog Club have updated all their information on health, and have planned an excellent programme fo healthe vents over the coming months.

Please check their update site for more information

They contacted me over a month ago with this information and quite rightly point out that I should have updated this site with that before now.

Rough and smooth collies are separate breeds with similar but not identical health problems. The Smooth Collie Club of GB has been actively encouraging DNA testing and health screening and offers a % reimbursement. The Club website is updated regularly and has a big section on health issues and issues are discussed at Committee Meetings four times a year. There is only one Club for smooth collies so makes addressing health problems much easier although gene pool is very small.

Dear Madam
I have owned, worked, bred and been involved with the breed all of my 49 years. Please can you tell me why i would hip score a Glen ? they dont have a problem. I was until recently a GOITA committee member the association has done alot of hard work on health i suggest you speak to Don Harley the health co-ordinator. Instead of judging everything of websites speak to the people concerned you would learn alot from Don he speaks alot of commonsense.
Don like myself has been a professional stockman and speaks well and knows his glens well and i am quite willing to talk to you 01608-650615 in person not via this inpersonal method.
